Currently, a map is not just a sheet of paper but increasingly interactive maps. These allow us to quickly understand processes occurring over time, such as urban development, the course of conflicts, industrial growth and intensity, and much more.
Below, we present interactive maps which depict phenomena in real-time (or the most up-to-date) and provide reliable information alongside their impressive visuals. We thank the creators for their tremendous efforts and for sharing their analytical results with us.

CONFLICTS
THE MAP presents data on global conflicts and security breaches in real-time.
The site updates data in real-time, relying solely on open data. The platform allows access to historical data.
CYBERSECURITY V.1
THE MAP depicts real-time cyberattacks, with colors distinguishing the types of attacks.
The site belongs to SonicWall, an American company providing Internet security solutions and devices.
CYBERSECURITY V.2
The map aims to show real-time cyberattacks, with colors differentiating the types of attacks. The platform also offers a view of statistical data.
The site belongs to Kaspersky Lab, a Russian company founded in 1997, selling antivirus software.
ENERGY
COAL POWER PLANTS
The map presents data on coal-based power plants. The platform provides information such as power plant efficiency, status, CO2 emissions, and type of fuel (2000-2020).
The site is powered by data from the Global Energy Monitor. The author is Carbon Brief – a British company researching global climate change.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES
The map presents data on global disease outbreaks. The platform provides information on the occurrence of infectious diseases, the number of deaths, and methods to counteract the spread of diseases.
The project is maintained by Harvard Medical School, which feeds the map with open-source data daily.
COVID
The map presents the number of COVID virus infections, including information on deaths and the number of vaccinated people.
the project is maintained by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (Johns Hopkins University). Data comes from FAO, NOAA and esri. The database was maintained on a daily basis.

POPULATION NUMBERS
The map presents the population numbers of the largest cities worldwide (1950-2035).
The project is based on data from the United Nations.
MIGRATIONS
The map depicts international migrations globally. Blue fields indicate a positive level of migration, while red fields indicate negative.
The project is based on data from The United Nations Population Division. Unfortunately, the data is not updated (the map shows the status as of 2015).
ENVIRONMENT
AIR QUALITY
The map presents real-time air quality worldwide. The platform also provides historical data and more detailed regional information.
The site has been operating since 2007 and is maintained by an international agency aiming to raise awareness of global air pollution and countermeasures.
FOREST COVERAGE
The map presents a range of data on forests worldwide. You can find information on fire hazards, deforestation, the process of deforestation, and more, which can be compared over different time intervals.
The site belongs to Global Forest Watch, which updates the service daily.
CLIMATE WARMING
The map presents global climate warming data. The information can be analyzed over a wide time range (1860-2100). Data can be downloaded in .xml format.
The platform belongs to Carbon Brief – a British company researching global climate change.

The map simply shows the export/import of selected goods, presented from 2004 to 2019.
The platform belongs to the Chatham House Resource Trade Database (CHRTD).

The map presents real-time flights. By selecting an airplane, you can get information about the flight route, time, type of plane, and altitude.
The portal also has a database of airports, airlines, and airplanes (with photos), which can be easily browsed.
SEA
The map shows real-time ships on all seas and oceans.
The portal also has a database of ports, lighthouses, and ships with their photos and basic parameters, which can be easily browsed.
